SO SAD as many worshippers killed as bandits attack Catholic church during service in Ondo

Gunmen alleged to be bandits assaulted St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, seat of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, murdering approximately 50 or more members of the congregation.

It was discovered that the gunmen infiltrated the church during worship on Sunday morning, June 5 and started fire on the congregants.

Unconfirmed number of bodies had been removed from the church, with many who sustained injuries rushed to the Federal Medical Center, FMC, in Owo.

Owo is the hometown of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed the church during while service was going on and opened fire on the congregation.

One of the eyewitness who craved anonymity stated that the worshippers were caught off guard when the attackers arrived.

He added that the number of casualties could be higher because some attendees who were taken to the hospital gave up the ghost.

According to Nigerian Tribune, no fewer than 50 corpses had been taken out of the church with several casualties laying at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, seeking medical attention.

A source revealed that the congregation were caught unexpectedly, adding that the death toll would grow as some attendees who were rushed to the hospital had reportedly died.

He stated that the attackers also utilized some explosives within the compound of the church but said majority of the people were hit with bullets.
